Cool blinkrocker.

What I like:
panning synth
backing vox
the bass. nice. put some more low-end on it for a nice groove
the tube-strained main vox

What I think could be improved:
add more presence to lead vox, and maybe dub it with a delay
Violin is a bit too loud and overpowers before the 2 minute mark, maybe add more reverb/delay to it?
Same with the bells around 2:40 mark (maybe use similar ambient effects on the violin)?

Fix it up and I'd bump it down the street

thanks a lot. I'll mess around with some stuff and change around the violin/bells levels and see how it sounds

Agreed. Nice track dude, may I ask what you used for the violins?

I used Reason 4.0 for the whole beat. The violin and the bells both came from a orchestra refill that came free with Reason. Yea while I was working with the rapper in the song I was playing around with the beat and ran into that violin sound and couldn't believe how real it sounded, so I added it as a last minute thing and I'm really happy with it.

I agree that the violins have a very organic sound, I've been using IK Multimedia's Miroslav Philharmonik for cellos and stuff, too many soundbanks repeat the same sample, sounds like reason alternates them.

Oh BTW, on second listen, what if you added a 'lil echo to the intro piano, like a dark brief delay for emotional emphasis.

Great track btw.

Out of curiosity, you did the bass via midi right? Have you tried dropping all the notes an octave for more low-end movement? Feel free to post more re-mixes of it.

Yea, the bass is through an arpeggiator. I'll trying it like that and see what happens.

Yea I have Miroslav Philharmonik too and I use it time to time, but I think the playing styles in Reason are so much better.

Miroslav is good once you spend the entire night setting up patches and layering them and setting the velocities...etc, yeah out of the box it isnt a load-up-and-hit-the-keys kinda environment, I usually play something then run through Logic's sampler instrument settings and find a good string setting, then mimic it in Miroslav (or try to and give up since I have ADD).

Anyway, what's your DAW? I like the modest use of auto-tune for the chorus, instead of across the entire thing.

I use Cubase 5. I started out on Cubase 4 LE that I got with an audio interface, so when I was wanting to upgrade I was looking into either Protools or Cubase 4, and then Cubase 5 came out and I decided that the price difference was so much that I would go with Cubase.

Yea I try really hard to avoid using too much auto tune because I know how much some people hate it. I definitely am not a fan of the T-Pain sound. I love controlling the auto tune with my keyboard because it amazes the people who's voice I'm controlling and they beg me to do the whole song that way, but I like keeping it on the hook only.

the first verse seems like it doesn't fit into the track, maybe a little loud and I think the reverb doesn't match the ambience on the instrumental.

I do agree about the bells, but the violin sounded fine.
