What is the definition of R&B nowadays?

Sometimes it's all blurry to me.

I'd have to say the Black Eyed Peas, assuming they're considered R&B.

17 years ago I would've said Mariah Carey. 5 years ago I would say Norah Jones.

Good question, Tony. R&B (Rhythm and Blues) should, by definition, have some relationship (loose or otherwise) to blues-like sound. Back in the '60s, R&B was synonymous with "Soul" music. But in the '50's it was more akin to the bluesy side of Rock 'n' Roll. So maybe we should caveat the question with which era you're referring (or listening) to.

Yeah that what I was referring to. Sometimes black Eyed Peas is called R B and sometimes hip hop. Maybe they're both.

Is Sugarland or Taylor Swift pop and/or rock?

Ray Charles, Billy Preston, Louis Jordan, James Brown and that sort of thing. It's funny how rappers have appropriated the label "R&B". Something like that dude buying the Telefunken name and slapping it on Chinese mics. But more like calling Kenny G. et al. "jazz". Nothing wrong with the music, it's just not really "jazz".

R&B not so much, been listening to a lot of old funk lately, Sly, Temptations, that sort of thing. Must have something to do with the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, or the full moon, or something.
