R&B beat

I am not well versed in R&B or hip hop stuff. I am wondering what you think of this beat with no vox.

I wanted it to be sparse so that there is a lot of room for vocals. There are a few change up's etc.

On the sonic side it is pretty raw. You can still hear my goofy punch in's etc. but some feed back on the basic sounds would be nice.

not bad at all, its more its more of a hip hop beat i would say then a r&b beat. maybe take out the taps at some parts, the snare hits sound a little funny for hip hop, maybe out front to much or something can't quite put my finger on it, but this is smooth, i could write to it so that makes it a hit in my book.

Thanks for the reply. I don't know very much about genre specific details of modern R&B compared to hip hop. What is makes this more hip hop? When you say take out the taps out at some parts do you mean the hi-hats.

r&b has a smoother flow/vibe too it, yes it can in some cases have a raw beat to it but more or less its a real smooth vibe, maybe add a nice lead and give it a flowy melody. i like the instrumental trips 9, but it needs to be smoothed out for r&b.

If I understand you correctly what you are saying is that this beat could be an okay R&B beat if the melody is "melodic". Maybe if the drums where smoothed out and less in your face as well. Is this correct.

heres a little something i did with it to give it a smooth feel for what i was trying to explain. i played it real time so the timing might be off but youll get the idea.

Cool Edub! Yeah the pad sounds add the smoothing effect for sure. It seems no one liked my in your face snare. The claps smoothed this out well. Thanks Edub that demonstrates your point well.
