Realy nice song and vocals. Great! Sometimes the recording isnīt that important. The song and the vocal deliveriy is far more important. And you have a truly great song there and the vocal delivery is top notch or even beyond that. Everything is there varts and all. Brilliant this really bleeds. Therfore I say do not change anything this time around! Next time I think the recording conditions are the main issue. In my ears it sounds like a condenser and a bad room and a compressor that enhanches the vocal but the room as well. For most home recordists a sound treated room is no option. A good dynamic microphone like a Shure SM7b or one of the Neumann dynamics is. These mics captures the essence of the voice while keeping the hiss and noice out. Things you could try with this vocal take is to cut out everything that has no vocals manualy. The prefered option or use a gate. The lazy option but do it manually. You coul also cut all the low frequency harder. I think. On this cleaner track duplicate. Let one track be compleatly clean and ad delay or reverb if you like but I don't think it is nesicary in this case. On the duplicate clean track add tons of compression and a eq that enhanches everything above 500 Hz. Problem areas have to be cut out with a very narrow eq. This is basic parallel compression. You can now hand ride orautomate the compressed track against the clean one to get the mix you prefere. Sorry about my bad english but I hop this was at least to some assistance. |

Thanks a lot for your quick response, On the microphone piece, i completely agree. I will purchase the sm57 come month end But thanks, I will try to implement your recommendations |

And the parallel compression thing could breathe a little dimension into the vocals, too.

I feel like I've gotten more than I bargained for which is great, I really appreciate the feedback. The biggest worry for me had been the hiss, but I do get the comment on the backing vocals totally. So is there a way that I can remove the hiss in a way that doesn't destroy the quality of the song? I've just looked at the prices for a sm7b mic and i must admit it's quite steep... so I feel in a way lost. Help |

Also i want to know how far I am from being able to play the song on radio? And is the song good enough?
