Sounds good, Agreed, cut the highs just a bit along with the vox. I like the verse though. >>peace<<

if your anything like me trips i know you hate to hear that agin the highs are your enemy, when i mix i try to get my shit as crispy as i can and i tend to overcompensate on the highs(workin on this). also the vox do need to come down a hair. does anyone know of the balance between the beat and the vocals? should your vocals be two db lower than the beat does anyone have a answer for that or is it song to song things change accordingly? as always tho trips i like that flo of yours

its really a song to song thing, and even more a voice to beat thing. i like to normalize my vocals and the beat to the same setting, then slowly lower the voice in most cases cause the voice is the louder of the two. but i slowly lower the vocals until i can hear all the sounds of the instrumental without straining, then i raise the vocals until i can just hear every word of the vocals even through the bass hits. i often end up with a mix where the vocals sit in the beat like a baby in a crib, you can hear all the instruments clear and you can hear the vocals clear. sometimes, tho very rarely i have to add some punch to the vocals to get them to slice through the bass hits, but i like the music to be up and my voice to blend almost like another instrument. something im still getting a handle on as i have just started doing it about 6 months ago. there is a preference thing to, some guys want there voice sitting on top of the beat. some guys want their voices sitting under the beat where you can only really make out sections of what they are saying. all in preference.

so pretty much theres no real way to do it, its all about how you want it to sound and as long as it sounds right do it!, i like the normalize option i have to try that tonight when i get home, i will post a test mix up tomorrow that ive been working on this week, just trying to get the effects to send and blend smoother than my prior posts. good lookin glen.

lol you sound like me about 6 years ago when i was still relatively new to all this. i had done about 10 mixes at that time all of them were my songs, and they all sounded crappy, then i met up with a guy that started teaching me things about mastering and i was like forget all this this is to much. just point me to the booth and turn the mic on lol. not saying im there yet but it did get easier. i am primarily a ghost writer/engineer but i still occasionally get on the mic and spit out a hit or 2.

i said all that to say, keep at it, it'll break for you eventually, i mean your mixing are tons better then mine were a few years back, and if i hadn't bumped into someone to teach me, my mixes would probably still be crappy
