Default Forgive You - a poppy R&B song. Peer-review please?

This is the 2nd track I ever recorded with my gear for a friend putting together the demo. Two brothers did it - the younger composed and performed all the instruments and the older did the vocals. There's a fair amount going on, especially the auxillary percussion. Though this is the final mix, any feedback and criticism is much appreciated!

i do like this, as i'm a big fan of slow melodies, and beautiful voices. the vocals seem to loud and there is to much going on as far as effects, some of the echoes could be eliminated to create more clarity. The harmonies are to loud as well, the don't blend very well with the main vocals. and i just got caught so i'll have to finish this later

wow this is a great song. Im feeling the song, mix, effects I think they go well for the song. The song is a soulful track so i want to hear the airy sound.
great job in my books.

Thank-you both!

Yeah the harmonies do seem to not blend the best with the melody, but I could never figure out why. When I soloed the harmony mix, everything sounded perfectly blended and balanced, but with the melody, it didn't sound as pretty. Oh well, ha.

There is only delay for about 7 seconds tops on the song. Personally, I found it pretty tasteful.

The mix sound ok to everybody? At one point or another, there are congas, bongos, a shaker, claves & chimes. What about the tom fills? The kit was a DW, however, I'm not sure I'm happy with their sound.

i wouldn't call this poppy at all, more like soul, or old school, has even a slight jazz feel, but it's definitely not poppy. as far as the mix goes, everything sits very nice, the only real issue i had was with the harmonies and such.

Yeah me and him did one more song for a demo he was putting together. I'll post it on this thread for you. The mixing for it is subpar to my ears, and I would have approached it all completely differently if I were to go back and do it again. Be aware there are one or two parts that the harmonies distort when hitting the limiter.
