Another One for yall to bash

WEll here is my third attempt, i want a beat down as usual, i realize it may sound a bit wet but the artist likes it, maybe if enough of you guys say that its wet that will help my cause some, i tried the old Mo-Town trick of instead of using exciters making 2 copies of the vocals and compressing and and eq'ing the hell out of one and leaving the other alone. I actually like it a little better then exciters. anyways, bash away.

im not going to bash this until i get home because my ear bud headphones are garbage, but i do think that the hook could use more oomph, they could use more harmony tracks to bring that depth. how many vox tracks did you record? u said about duplicating the vox and compressing 1.

she only recorded 3 tracks, i bounced those three together and duplicated them so i was playing with 2 tracks of 3. She sings in falseto so getting it as thick as it was was a hassle, not to mention the issue with most of the music people in the low end neighborhoods. they all have to be high or drunk or something or another to record. which for a singer is just dumb as hell, but whatever. I didn't even know where the hook was until she told me, and when i started laying the pressure on, she started getting worse, so i need to find out how to get the most out of her. but she likes this version, even tho in my opinion its sub par, i posted it to see what other engineers think of it.

i do hear where she is lacking vocally, and i think if she would layer more tracks together you would be able to make her sound better. 3 tracks is not alot for a straight r&b song. she should have 8 tracks for her hook alone and thats on the short end. she could play on her weaker spots with good adlibed riffs. i think when you bounce single tracks down to make harmony tracks that they have a tendancy to sound artificial even robotic, what do think about that?

yeah if your bouncing down to create harmony it does sound artificial, i was bouncing down so that i could get the effect of an exciter with using an exciter, and to touch up some stuff that need touching up really bad. i'll tell her about the adlibs i got so caught up in overall production that i didn't even think about adlibs fixing the weaker parts. we actually have had arguments over this song. getting 8 takes out of her is not going to happen, thats why i tried using whatever i could find to get it better. getting 3 is sometimes an issue. for most of the harmonies i try to use either harmony engine from antares, or the muvoice, but nothing sounds quite as good as someone that can harmonize and isn't to lazy to do it. good advice tho thanks edub

if she wants to make good records then she needs to stop being lazy and record muliple tracks! a little more work yeah but the overall product will be well worth it. put the smoke down and pick up the mic feel me! ill get at u

Well i had to take a sec and come back to this, this post is neither helpful nor truthful. I am asking for a little advice not only in dealing with a mix that i said i personally didn't like and the owner of the song did, partly my fault for letting her sit in on the mix and have some say, but also in dealing with a artist that likes something that i deem to be sub par. honestly i have heard your mixes and altho they sound good they do not sound good enough for you to call anyone else a crappy engineer, not only did you not read the post or anything in the thread but you seem to be trying to spur me on without even realizing it. i am all about a good bashing as long as it is helpful but this isn't helpful at all, its just inflammatory, if you listen to some of the other stuff i posted you will see that my standards and abilities are way above this track, which is why i don't like it. to make a long story short this thread is for helping each other, how is what you posted helpful, if i went onto your track and said, they are way to high and harsh, sounds awful you should just give up. you be pissed right, so don't do it to others.
