As a song its certainly a great set openner. (Reminds me of Let the Battle Commence, by Hell - but you won't have heard of that)

Maybe my ears are working right today but why does it sound so e m p t y?
A song like this should have a mix that Kicks Ass, but it don't. I had to turn it up to 11 to get the effect.

Anyway I can't get my head round why it don't sound so good to me - maybe someone else could comment.

PS. Actually, thinking about it and having listened to more mp3s on myspace including yours, perhaps if it were "mastered" deliberatly to go on mp3 then it might be better?

Two things pop out. Really poor reverb sounds and a definitely midrangy feel to the proceedings. It has that "blankets on the speakers" feeling. Whoever mastered this probably has fairly bright monitors because it sounds like they think their getting something other than what they are. It's fairly bass-shy, as well.

My feeling is that this really really close to being top-notch. Look into a convolution reverb to run on an AUX or two. Suck out some of the midrange peaks and let the bass end through more. That'll let more of the crunch of the instruments through. You may have to un-lean the vocals more at this point. It's all there, to my ears. Just rearrange the EQ scheme some.

Howdy to Utah. Lived there before.

I should've described it more.
We wanted to make it sound like 80s thrash metal. and recorded at that time.
No mastering yet waiting for the other songs to be mixed

I dig the retro thing you're going for, and it really comes through, lol. I think the drums need to come foreword a bit, but that's just a matter of taste. It might not suit the era you're trying to emulate. But I agree with the other posters in that it sounds... Flat. But I can't pinpoint what makes me feel that way. Hopefully it'll get taken care of in mastering, because it's musically very impressive.

This seems very "boxy" in the midrange - That 400-800hz range really needs some attention. I don't think this is something that can be fixed by mastering, I think the guitar tracks particularly need looking at during the mixing stage. Guitars need more agression in the hi mids as well. As GB mentioned, there is very little push in the bottom end. At present it wants to be scary, but it's not... cool playing, though.

pretty much just reiterating previous comments.. the drums have no impact.. they are like a frantic sputtering of sounds underneath the mix, and they should be in front. The performances are good, Id have to say the mix is needing work, I hope this wasn't your final, if so might need to book a few more hours and get some meat in the drums.

The tone on the guitars for the solo's is great, i don't know what was done differently on that, but the rest of the guitars sound kind of mushy or something. They definitely could use some more aggression, though the songwriting has plenty.
