[pedant] It's not a 6/8 12 bar blues. If it was in 6/8, it would be a 24 bar blues. [/pedant] (I've edited this post because I agree, it was in bad taste, and apologise to the OP) Last edited by richiebee; 12-31-2008 at 03:08 PM. |

[pedant] Well I think RichieBee's hypothesis that the time signature of a bar changes the number of bars is nonsense. [/pedant] [sarcasm] Why doesn't RichieBee get a fundraiser to buy himself a soul/braincell/life/friend/bullet to shoot himself. [/sarcasm] Sorry about that I don't know what came over me. Onto the song. Everything sounds well recorded to me. I can't pick faults in how any of the instruments sound. It even sounds like a real piano. Nothing seems to clip and nothing is overly compressed. The guitar tone is excellent it sounds like a nice guitar into a really nice valve amp. The minimum for a tone like that would probably be a Les Paul Junior into a Peavey Classic, I'm guessing wildly but I'm really curious what your friend used. It's nice. The playing is good and the performances blend well. So in short this mix sounds good enough to me. Unfortunately I don't know anyone who can sing the blues and can help finish the track. Nonetheless, best of luck for you and your friend in the coming year Tiberius |

[music lesson] It's called 12 bar blues because the chord progression contains 12 bars. 6/8 does not equal 4/4. Even though mathematically you might say that 6/8 is equivalent to 3/4 (remember math?), it's actually equivalent to 2/4 because of the triplet pulse - the subdivision of beats. That's the whole point behind not using a time signature of 4/4 here. So, with the subdivision of beats meaning there are two quarter note beats in a bar of 6/8 and four quarter note beats in a bar of 4/4, you'd need twice as many bars of 6/8 to give you the same length as 4/4. Or you could use a time signature of 12/8 instead of 6/8. That's actually more likely. [/music lesson] [apologies] The rest of my post was a bit weird. Didn't mean to offend anyone - I just thought it was a little odd how the OP mentioned the whole house burning down thing. Of course, I hope everyone got out okay (including pets) and that insurance covers his costs. [/apologies] Last edited by richiebee; 12-31-2008 at 01:03 PM. |

Great sound!!!! Only suggestions is add the lyrics. I wish there was a blues category also. Had to listen to this one several times I enjoyed it so much. I am very much a novice to recording but have decades of listening and attempting to play blues. You got yourself a nice tune here!!!! You never get over the blues, as an old blues player once told me, "blues is the music of life". Keyboard sound reminds me of Floyd Dixon and your friend on guitar is kick ass!!! What guitar is he using? Totally enjoyed!!! Don't sing but wouldn't mind taking a stab at writing some lyrics. Can I download this? Look forward to hearing the finished product!!! Sorry, just figured out how to download this tune *LOL* Will fool around with it and see if I can offer some lyrics suggestions. Do have one other idea, adding a sax would enhance the overall sound. Also sorry to hear about your friend's house buring down and hate you lost your master files to this one. Butch Ye Old Homesteader |

This is one really nice blues jam. I'll DL and see what I can come up with. Grew up in Louisiana baby! I absolutely adore blues, and would probably count it among my big influences...

OK...i mentioned the house burning down because it SUCKED. We were going to do more work on this and get vocals...now i'm stuck with a wav/MP3/wma ... whatever it is, it ain't the project file, and whoever does vocals will be stuck with how it is. Just sayin... And as to the 6/8- 12 bar blues controversy...even in 6/8, you're going to stick with the 12 bar blues template. 6/8 or in 4 counts...it'll all come out, and yes, i suppose 6/8 and 3/4 are the same thing, but for this, i counted 1 2 3 4 5 6 and that constituted as one count. Anyways wasn't tryin to stir up anything.... i just wanted feedback and see if i could put feelers out for a vocalist. Dia> |
