Default Recorded Practice Session

So me and this kid recorded ourselves practicing a few songs. We set up a mackie 1604 mixing board and ran it directly into logic. Threw a bunch of mics on his kit and plugged my keyboard in. After one take this is what we got. Warning, the song was one track and it is completely unmixed. Let me know what you think.

Ben

P.S. It is actually two songs, the intro is called Unfortunation and the song it goes into is called Burn Me Up Inside.

There is a lot of clipping going on with the kick drum. (Too much signal going in?) There is also a lot of hiss overall. This could be down to added reverb. Sorry but I didn't listen to it all as my ears couldn't take it. I don't mean that to sound bitchy in any way. You just need to get levels sorted, i:e make sure nothing is peaking before you start recording. Keep playing around and post it up again soon.

Good luck

Just had another listen and I have to correct myself. It's not hiss it's a bit buzz, at the start. (Sorry, too much whisky). But the whole kit is causing clipping. Like I said, keep an eye on those input levels.

Nothing was clipping on the board or in the computer. Just some knowledge you might want to know.

I liked the song. Sounded good through my laptop speakers. The drums were a bit loud. Thank you.

Had another listen today and it must have been my pc causing the clipping sound. I was listening to something else last night and had the same thing happen. Sorry, didn't mean to sound like I was dssing your stuff. I will say tho' that the drums are too loud for the mix.

I lasted almost two minutes.
I don't think a piano and a drum kit works in this instance. The hi-hats sound
very loose indeed and just rattle for an eternity on each hit. That may work in a rock
song but it doesn't here.
Thought the music was very atmospheric, you may have a good ability to compose
for cinema perhaps but it would have worked better with strings in the background
rather than a drum kit.

thank you tiberius,

I will ask the rest of you to at least have enough respect to listen to the entire thing before you make a comment. tiberius you are missing the end of the song, which has a rock vibe to it.

Wow, that was really good. You're a great pianist! It had a very Ben Folds feel to it. I think the vocals could have been turned up more, but for a one track one take, you did a fine job. I suggest re-recording it doing the vocals again.
