Hey. This song is going on my bands ep so any mixing advice is appreciated. I know the drums take up a lot of space and can make the mix a little muddy but I have them all in on track so I can't do to much about it. Let me know what you think. Thanks. -Jack |

Hey. I liked this song. At first i thought i was going to hear an angels and airwaves knock off but i was pleasantly suprised, but well done on capturing that sound in the intro. I liked the sound of your drums, they have alot of punch, but i think that the hi hat in particular, is the problem. It's sitting on the frequencies your lead guitar and vocals need, and i think that's why your losing clarity. But then theres the problem of them being on the same track. I think the best thing to do here, would be a lowpass filter or a shelved EQ setting. Obviously this will have an effect on the other drums in the channel but its your choice. You could always re-record them. I wouldn't describe your mix as muddy, but certain sections are a little busy. I think you need to reign in the timing for the guitars in the verse. But overall i think this is a well written song and a good mix. Sorry if i was overly critical, and i hope i helped. Last edited by iUinside; 10-06-2009 at 07:58 PM. |

From what I can tell, I feel that the drums are making things muddy. That bass drum almost has a CLIPPING feel to it, even though it's not too blatantly clipping. I really think that the guitars are recorded very nicely/cleanly somewhere back there, but you can't begin to hear them as well as you should because of the drums. I would first suggest you tackle getting the drum tracks sounding better, and see where to go from there. |

I agree, the drums are overpowering a bit and the hi hat definitely sounds like it's competing with the guitar frequencies like iUinside was saying. I do like the oomph on the bass kick, but it really needs to be omnipresent and not overpowering, just like the beat and flow of a song... you shoudl be enjoying the song and not thinking about the bass kick every time it shows up. On the same token it seems the snare is a bit quiet compared to the kick... so bringing the kick down might smooth that out a bit. Once you do that you might find vocals are actually a bit loud as well. Definitely go back and remix a bit and mess with the volumes as well as EQ the instruments out a bit for more clarity. |

I disagree, I think the bass sounds fantastic, and helps this song cross genre lines. It rounds it out so that it's part rock, part dance, not anything specific, which I really enjoy. I agree on the high-hat points, it seems overpowering, which is a shame with such interesting guitar playing. I love adding the bells during the screamed portion (though I think you should bring the vocal down a bit during that part, so it's less obvious when you switch from the exhale to the inhale, because that felt awkward and uncomfortable), and how line-blurring the whole track was. There might be slight technical issues like drums being all on one track and such, but I'm REALLY impressed with this. Where can I get more of your band's material?

Thanks a lot for the feedback. next recording i'll try to get the drums on multiple tracks or at least get the hihat quieter... My band's myspace is ATLANTICA (NEW DEMO UP, NEW SONGS SOON) on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Videos We only have two songs up right now... but we are recording a 3 song ep in a studio right now, which should be finished and mixed/mastered within a month. |
