Default My first recording! Please bash.

This is my first recording. I don't know much about recording and i wanted to try something new. My equipment is not that great, but i somehow manage. For this song i used Reaper 3.0, EZdrummer, Zoom 707 guitar 2 and an Ibanez RGR 321.

vyn,

Sounds really good. You might want to bring the guitars up a bit, but overall it has a good sound to it.

Hey jagcmos, thanks for the comment. I will raise volumes of the guitars. I thought the same when I heard the song many times.

Hi vyn,

A very good first recording!
But it sounds a bit muddy to me...you should try hi-passing the bass and guitar to get rid of the muddiness

Nice work vyn! I like the guitar sounds and the drums too. Agree that the guitars could come up a few decibels and I cn't really hear the bass either. Sounds like it will be a great song tho dude.

It's a personal preference, due to a lot of the prog/tech death drums that I write, but I'd like to hear a little less cymbal...I'd bring the crashes and the hat down just a little bit in the mix. The snare is good, but (again, out of personal preference), I'd make it sound a little more fat if I could. Also, the guitars could use a little bit of a boost, but they sound nicely layered and blend fairly well. Be careful that your distortion doesn't muddy it up too much, though. Try toning down the bass on the guitar tracks a tiny bit and perhaps turning the gain nob down just a little. There is such thing as too much of a good thing, and unless you're trying to shred the paint off a wall at 400 yards, sometimes too much distortion robs your riffs of clairity.

The drums freaking rock. Are you using just EZdrummer, or do you have the DKFH extension?

Hey guys,
thanks for checking out this song and thanks for the comments and suggestions. Sorry for the late reply(I had problems with my computer). I'll definitely increase the volumes on the guitars and try to reduce the crashes and the hi-hat. Will post the edited one soon. Till then, can someone explain to me what you guys mean by my guitars sounding muddy?
Thanks.

Hey, I used DFH for this song and for some minor parts of the song, I used Addictive Drums.

I think what was meant by the term "muddy" was that your tone is not exactly clear, and each note picked kind of mushes into the other, like a mud puddle. It's a desirable tone for some, but if you're going for technicality, you want something more crisp or defined. In the end, it's really all about what YOU want. Don't forget that.

Cool song... agree totally with everyone about the drums being a little too high in the mix ... it's probably more that the guitars are a bit too low in tone and low in the mix. I think the guitar tone your going for is nice but it could use some cut to it (mainly just highs). Thanks for stopping by my thread as well.

Keep it up!
