get your levels up for starters
What are are you using, equipment wise?

I'm a Fostex MR 16 then uploading tracks onto my pc and using adobe audition 3.0 i used shure sm57 on guitars audix f14 on kick and bass cad pencil condenser for over heads and shure sm57 on the snare.

Maybe it's the Fostex. Everything is down in the mix. Make sure your getting good levels while tracking. Then us EQ to narrow each instrument, get rid of the frequencies outside the normal range. This will allow you to boost each channel more.
