Default Kick me in the junk!

I use EZdrummer, Cubase LE4, PODfarm, Firebox 96k, and my guitar rack. I record music by myself and made an album this summer which is at SoundClick artist: Stu Andrews - page with MP3 music downloads Hit me hard, I wanna know the truth.

Hi Stu.
The way I hear it, you're not really getting it in the groove man.
The timing is just way too loose. Have a look at this:
Free Guitar Lessons - BC-126 ? Foot tapping (how to and why) - Beginners Guitar Method with Justin Sandercoe (Learn how to play guitar)

I thought maybe My Gun was just starting that way for effect and it would clear up as it went along. Well is sort of did, but never got tight. Maybe you like it like this so ignore if you think I'm wrong.

I think you get the relative levels of stuff right most of the time. And I like some of the ideas and sounds. I think you over use the distortion on the rhythm guitars, and I would question the choice of drum sounds for this sort of music - especially the flabby kick.

I'm gonna take the opposite view to PSR here... I don't see a real issue with tightness - sure it could be tighter, but your playing works for me. In fact, I was quite taken with "Burn My Gun" as a song - very solid songwriting - & I really enjoy your vocal style too - Reminds me of a less-relaxed Chris Rea. I think though, that the mixes are so muddy & not well balanced, so the elements that provide tightness (ie. drums & bass) are being completely swallowed up. The guitar sound, in particular on BMG needs improvement - it really messy & muddy (& very mono). Re-balancing the mix to feature the drums & bass more would be a good start, followed by a good dose high pass filtering on the individual tracks... From a songwriting, singing perspective, I can hear real promise here. Keep at it.

Having had a think about this, there's not a problem with latency is there?
Stu, you are recording either with with a low latency set up, using hardware monitoring (where you don't press the monitor button) or simply putting the tracks back where they should have been after recording them too late (as it were)?

""From a songwriting, singing perspective, I can hear real promise here""
I agree fHumble fHingza about that! Don't give up writing the stuff.

I use a Firebox by Presonus and the settings for the actual machine are as follows (Sample Rate:44.1kHz Latency:10.0ms) on both of these I have options. I can move my sample rate to 48kHz, 88kHz, or 96kHz. On the Latency I can go down to 1.5ms. I know I cant do anything about the songs that I have already recorded but I am starting a new project and I appreciate any help. Thanks for the great suggestions already.
