i think this sounds really nice, my only real gripe with it is your tone on the distorted electric guitar, for me it either needs more balls or you have to lay it back a little. at the moment its not really doing its job properly, i.e making your track sound epic. I'd advise putting more treble on it through your amp and rolling off the compression threshold a bit. i also find the vocals a bit loud at the start. The acoustic guitar sounds good imo, if you thicken it to much it'll interfere with the electric when it comes in over all good stuff |

Thanks everyone for your input. I was wondering if a mic like a Rode NTK would give me a richer/thicker sounding vocal through my ME-1NV preamp. The vocal was recorded using a Shure SM7B. The guitar sound at the beginning is from my Kurzweil PC3X. I was thinking it is missing something as well. Perhaps a plugin like MusicLab's RealGuitar would be more suitable. The distorted guitar sound is from East West's Ministry of Rock software. I think I removed some of the low end so that may be causing the lack of balls. I read in Recording Magazine that a better solution than simply removing the bottom end may be to use a multi-band compressor and set the threshold in the lower frequencies at a desired setting and only limit the volume when necessary. What do you guys think regarding the above? Thanks. |

Well i think the distorted electric guitar just sounds a little flat, and needs more life, so im thinking it need more treble. I like your vocal recording i dont really think there is anything wrong with that, a sm7b is a nice mic so i really dont think you have a prob with that. On second thoughs i think you could do with changing your clean guitar tone just try getting some of the lower frequencys out in your eq. |

I quite liked the whisper. I guess its about the theory that man never went to the moon. Those who were there at the time were convinced and I, for one, remain so. Its just disappointing that the technology has not been developed more. So, back to the mix. I don't have any real issues with the recording. The vocal sound is good - with some slight pitch issues - if a little dry, the guitars are quite ordinary but acceptable, as are the drums. The lead guitar starting at 2:28 I like but is a bit "up and down". The overall mix is vocal dominated - which I guess is as intended. Sorry, I didn't like the song.

Hey PeterSimonRussell, That's ok if you don't like the song. I could go either way on the topic of the moon flights, but I wrote it just because the idea of it being a fake is intriguing to me. Thanks for your comments. By "up and down" I am guessing that you are referring to volume and not pitch, is that correct? Thanks, Robert |
