Smile Hang Me Out To Dry

Here is our take on the Cold War Kids' 'Hang Me out To Dry'.
As usual we do everything in one take. Please bash and let me know how I can make it sound better...

garageband will become famous soon enough

Vocal is too low and thin. Use some parallel compression tricks. Don't forget to have some rhythm guitar (however low) under the solo. Bass is a bit wooly. Edit for tightness.

Like the vocal performance, though.

I hope it's ok that I'm commenting on the performance, but I'm just not feeling it. It seems like your drummer is really hesitant and it feels like sometimes I'd want him to get louder, but he only gets quieter. It would be a huge step forward if you guys could be a little tighter also.

I kinda like the song though. The guitars sound a little thin to me but i like the gainy sound. Personally i'd just like them to have more presence, especially in the chorus.

I dig it, how'd you get Ian Astbury to sing lead on it? ; )

Thanks for the comments!
This drummer lacks confidence, and isnt consistent. We swap out drummers about every session still looking for the "right one".

The way I record in my studio is in one take. We play the song a few times to figure out the parts and just move on. This recording was take #2.

Who?
Just kidding, we actaully saw The Cult play in Houston last Sept at House Of Blues... meh.
They are lame on stage and are too into themselves. They also had gear problems and that runined the show for me.

But hey thanks for the compliment, Woody is a great singer and great friend to boot.

So heres another version of the song, I worked more on adjusting the mix, EQing, gating, compressing, side chaining the bass with the kick, smoothed out bass with SVT plugin and tweaked Ozone settings on master channel.

Please let me how it sounds in your world...
