Default Feedback Wanted on a Chunky Pop-Punk/Rock song

Hi guys,

I'm in the midst of creating some final mixdowns for my newest album. Here's a song that I'd like to get some feedback on before we go to a master.

I will provide some info about the tracking process as well for those of you who may be interested.

I'm using a Presonus Firepod preamp for everything on this recording.

Kickdrum: A Shure Beta 52 mixed with a Sennheiser e901. The phase is flipped on the Beta 52

Snare: A Sennheiser e604 attached to the upper rim of the snare drum.

Floor and Rack Tom: I'm using a seperate Sennheiser e906 on each tom. The mic is positioned about 2 inches off the skins with a flat response (there's a boost and cut option on the mic, but I'm not using it)

Overheads: I'm using a pair of Rode NT1000's as overheads and they are about a foot and a half above the highest crash cymbals on the kit. Both are panned hard left and right in the mix with a major EQ cut below 650 HZ.

Bass: I ended up simply micing a Genz Benz cab and head, a Schector bass, with a Shure Beta 52. There is a Boss SD-1 pedal with a touch of distortion thrown into the tone as well.

Guitar: I have recorded two rhythm guitar tracks, which run through the majority of the song. Both are seperately panned hard and left. I used a Sennheiser e906 mic abiout a 1/4 inch off axis on one of the speakers of my Marshall 1960AV Cab. The hard left guitar is using a 50 watt Orange Rockverb and the hard right guitar is a Soldano Hot Rod 50 head. I used a Gibson Les Paul Custom as well as Standard for all guitar tracks. I believe I used a Soldano head for the lead guitar lines a well.

Vocals: Rode NT 1000 microphone on everything

Theres some tamborine and shaker tracks in the mix as well... they may need to be compressed a bit more.

Overall on the mix I've done minimal EQ, some reverb, a fair bit of compression and panning. Other then that it's a pretty raw mixed mostly controlled through volume control.

Any thoughts or comments are appreciated.

Thanks,

Pretty cool. I have to say the vocals don't completely fit the genre, though it's a pretty good song. The guitars are really good.

I like this song!I Like the guitar tones and the playing. The vocals don't do it for me on this tune. The vocalist is good but not suited for this tune.IMO.
The drums were small and boxy sounding, they need more punch and fullness for a song like this, like Nickleback,Queens of the stone age,Foo Fighters.
The bass is thin and low in the mix also. I would eq the bass better and get some bottom to this mix.
This is a good song, the simple arrangment works.I would start with the drums and re mix this from the ground up.
It has the potential to be a huge sounding rock anthem.

Artistically....great song; a lot of energy; good drive.

Technically----agree with Rockerdude; a better mix will bring that drive and energy out so it hits you in the b*lls! With what I heard, you can do it.

It's not my genre of music but it's definitely musical, and I listened to it all. The singer fits pretty well! He's hitting the right keys and notes to keep the entire thing together and solid so kudos to him on that, definitely sounds like something I could imagine hearing on the radio sometime (if I ever used my radio :P)

No complaints from me other than as a guitar player the section starting around 3:03 is using a very poor harmony between the two guitars that sounds wrong... which in itself isn't an issue except that the rest of the song is in a particular key/vibe and the harmony doesn't fit musically with the rest of the arrangement. I'm overly sensitive to stuff like that given the nature of my own writing style so don't mind me too much

Cool tune & very well put together & played! In addition to what has already been said... The type of vocal reverb doesn't suit the song - Sounds like they are in the next door room. Guitars are a bit on the fizzy side for me, but that could just be personal taste... One more thing: Is the tune a little bit long? It seemed to go on just a bit too long, so perhaps you might look at editing it down & really cutting all the fat so it's streamlined, super-catchy pop/punk. Well done!
