Default "EYE FOR AN EYE" - Grunge

One my brother wrote. He played guitars, bass, and sang on it. I sang the deep "Move it with the will of your mind" part.

Had a buddy come do drums on it. I mixed in some Drumagog samples with the kick and snare to achieve what I have so far.

It may still end up with a lead guitar part. I hope it does.

Let me know where it's sitting mix-wise. I have some ideas I want to work on with it, but it would be nice to have an outside perspective.

Pick apart the writing, performance, and mixing, please. Only way we'll ever get better is to know what we're missing.

Yeah, it does have an Alice In Chains-type of feel to it by the way.

Hey Vulc! Good to hear from you again - Love your little vocal bit! Wow, this this takes me back to the '90's - haul out the flannos! (If you don't understand that last bit, forgive me, I'm Australian) The good stuff: The vocal being doubled by the instrumental is a cool effect. The songwriting is excellent - succinct & to the point with no flashy stuff. All the playing & performances are very good too... Not to keen on: The snare sound - a little boxy with perhaps too much bottom snare in the mix - needs more snap & attack & perhaps more plate 'verb for that authentic '90 sound. Kick could be bigger with more sustain as well - sounds like a "teh" at the moment. Guitars are muddy & melding into a big smear with the bass. Love the tune - will be great once you tweak the mix.

Thanks Fhumble. My guess is going to be flannels for "flannos". lol

I get what you mean about the guitars being smeared into the bass. I've been on a kick to get my mixes super full and fat. Looks like I've taken it too far. Hah!

I've definitely got my work cut out on the snare and kick. I'll get them how I like and then I go and screw with them again. I keep playing with how much I can open up the compressors. There seems to be something there in the sound that I'm looking for, I just haven't found it... yet.

I appreciate the time taken for the comments. I've always liked your music, so I have an idea where you're coming from, taste-wise.

Hmm, it sounds to me like you recorded it at the wrong sample rate, are you sure you did it right?

Do you mean it's sounding funky on the player to you, GF?

I've played the file I've uploaded on a couple of different computers and hear no issues with the playback.

If you're referring to the sample rate I chose to record it in, I've never changed it in the course of editing or mixing. I'm not sure how that could be an issue.

How is my guitar sound?

Haha, sorry had to tag you back. It sounds good, I like it. It's got that grunge with a hint of industrial feel, kind of like Alice in Chains. Good job

Thanks, Awaken. I'll be willing to bet my brother would be cool with hearing that. We both like Mad Season a lot. (Wish there had been more from them).
