Default Classic metal kinda thing

Hey everybody, just wanted to get some opinions on this tune. It's just a demo to give to the rest of my band, so I played everything and programmed the drums. There's no vocals yet either, since I don't sing. I'm using these demo recordings as a way to practice and get better at recording, so any critiques are welcome.

I recorded this awhile back, so there are things I'd like to go back and fix now that I've got a few mics to play with and a better interface. In any case, the guitars were recorded direct through an M-Audio Fastrack, and I'm just using the built in amp simulation in Logic 8. Bass is the same deal, although I think I might have used a Behringer BDI 21 (the Sansamp knockoff) for that. Drums were sequenced in Logic, using samples from the Natural Drum Kit sample library. I don't have actual monitors yet, (should be arriving next week sometime) so this was just mixed on some Logitech computer speakers and Audio Technica headphones.

You'll have to excuse the playing, like I said, it's just a songwriting demo, and I'm not much of a guitar player, seeing as how bass is my main instrument.

I got an Iron Maiden vibe at first, then I got a Vinnie Moore vibe.
Well as an arrangement to give to you band it's fine. Have you got a melody or do you get the vocalist to make it up.
The bit I thought was really cool was when the counter melody thing happens starting about 1:22 into the tune.

The singer generally likes to do lyrics before committing to a melody, so I'll probably just leave that to him. He's usually pretty good at coming up with stuff that way.

Yeah, I really like that counterpoint guitar harmony bit as well, thanks.

I think it sounds quite good, as far as the riffs/structure. However the sound of it feels subdued. Don't know exactly what its from, if I had to say something I think the drums should be louder in the mix (particularly bass/snare) and I just get the impression the guitars were played softly.
