Default bash this melodic progrock song: "I've waited too long"

Hi there,

Could you please give me some feedback, anything you can think of, on this little tune?
I've recorded this with Sonar, AD, Line6 X3 Live for guitar (Blade RH4) and vocals (shure sm58).

Thanks in advance!

Nice complex structure. Jumping around between tempos, effects, guitar styles and such usually doesn't result in a good outcome...but you made it work and created a quite interesting song. Nice production, but it seems a bit "hot". I'd bring down almost everything except the vocals a few db. Enjoyed listening.

Hi,

Nice if a little too long. Good production but could perhaps do with being a bit punchier especially with the drums.

Cheers

Very complex arrangement..I think for the choice of genre the guitar tone although great it sounds out of context at least in the intro..As you start singing it starts making more sense though..The ducking guitar sound is great but that back ground underlay with a similar ducking sound gives me more the impression of leftover noise than an actual effective complement for the track..This has some jazz like elements to it which I find quite taste full and mixes well with the rest..Nice tone on the solo.
Vox I found just a bit over compressed compared to the openness of the rest of the track..

Good song. Nice work over all. Song is great and the tones are solid. IMO The sm 58 is not flattering to your voice. On the cheap I would try a studio projects B1 and combine it with the sm 58. 58's tend to give the feeling of being overly dry no matter what and bassy. You could try increasing the distance from the 58 and doing some more low roll off.

To begin with, excellent arrangement, very complex retro prog....in the beginning it had a "Yes" vibe about it. When the vocal came in it seemed to take away from the song...I don't think it was improperly recorded, but just didn't seem to fit the style of the song. 1:25 had a very cool mix of guitar/synth, 2:16 the guitar tone was very melodic, vintage and spot on. Great recording and song......

Hey guys,
Thanks for your time and usefull comments:

JJB: I think it's a bit too hot too; I mastered it a bit too loud I think. I had a problem mixing the vocals; I needed two separate tracks with the soft vocal and loud vocal because I couldn't get it compressed well on one setting. I need to tweak the vocals a bit.

Nigel451964:
Lol, a little too long?!?!? A progressive rock song timing 3:40 might be one of the shortest yet
I tried to capture a bit of vintage drum sound like Jethro Tull in the 70s on this track; but hopefully it will get more punchier if I get to re-record it with a real drummer (through AD)

Marino:
Yup, I need to check the vocals...I'll check out if I can get to kill the duck in the guitar

paul999:
The strange thing is that after extensive testing with the most expensive dynamic/condensator mics, my voice only sounds 'right' on a Shure SM58 though I might need to upgrade it to a beta. This song might not be the best example because indeed it doesn't sound right yet. But thanks for the tip on the distance; I think I will try it...

fullcrib:
Hopefully a re-record and/or tweak of the vocals will bring it a little closer to the song...but, I've heard it some times, people tend to either love or hate my voice

Hi,

I realise it sounds a bit daft to say a prog rock is too long but what I meant was it seemed to be longer than it needed to be. I've heard epic sounding songs that are actually shorter than yours; 'Happiness Is A **** Gun' by The Beatles immediately springs to mind which clocks in at 2:30.

Cheers
Nigel

I must have missed this one... Very good stuff! I think you've done a stirling job of the mix. I particularly like the lead guitar tone.... Simulation or not, it just plain sounds good!
Well done!
