Default All Time Low Six Feet Under The Stars(Drum Cover)

Heres a mix I threw down today, yes there is some hiccups in it but I was just trying to get it laid down. Tear it apart and let me know how to get the muddiness out of it. It sounds way different on my upstairs PC then on my downstairs one. I am using Cubase LE 4 with an Alesis 8Ch USB mixer. Windows XP pro Sev. Pack 3.

Holy snare drum batman! Sounds like a hit song though. I'd take another look at the level of your cymbals they seem a little hot in comparison to the guitars. And that snare...a little trick I picked up from the Lord Alge's is to turn the volume down as low as it'll go and bring it up slowly. The first thing you should hear is vocals and the top end of your snare. Next should be the bite of your guitar, for this type of music. Hope this helps. Great song, A+ on the songwriting!

Alrighty will do. The sound I got off of here isn't muddy at all- weird! haha

This is a drum cover of the original song- I did not wright this- copyrights belong to their rightful owners, this is meant for enjoyment purposes only.

Sounds right to me but I'm at work listening on a mono nearfiled speaker. I could be WAY off! Hopefully you'll get some more listeners.

Here's some of the things I would change about it:

- Overall it's a bit too compressed - Maybe do some dynamic riding in there manually.

- Bass should be quieter... needs a bit of EQ to bring out some more of its quality.

- Hats are too compressed/limited/muddy so take off all those effects and just add a little compression, a lil dynamic riding, and make sure EQ peaks at around 12Khz and not so in your face.

- The 2 guitars that start at the beginning and stay throughout the song need a bit more presence and clarity to them.

- Vocals are a bit too dry, maybe a bit of exciting and reverb riding on them with high EQ.

- I'm not sure but I think the snare gets off beat around 00:42 maybe do some quantizing on it.

- BD is unclear right now. You always have to make sure there's a difference between Bass Drum and Bass Guitar. Bring out some punch with EQ in the upper region.

There's a few more issues but you should focus on these for now.

hey man cool, thanks for the feedback.
There isn't a whole lot I can do with the vocals and guitars as that is an mp3 track, not individual tracks. Yea I don't know what happens at .45 it sounds like it glitched or something, I heard it a couple times throughout the song.

The drums sound abit dry. but btw, get those authentic tones.

Note the Overhead mics:

Your kick was weak, rian uses a SM91 or an audix d6 in his kick.

Now for the snare. You had way to much pop, and not enough snare in there.
Throw an SM57 on the top head.

Throw an SM57 on the bottom pointed directly under the snares. It felt as if you only were using a top mic in the recording. There wasnt alot of that snare sound in it. (somebody tuned the drum before the pic was taken)

Rack tom:

Floor: Audix D6 gives a HUGE floor sound

Last but not least, for your pleasure, Alex Gaskarth enjoying some time in the pool. :P

haha sweet man, i have the audix d6 on the kick I have to mess around with it more, the first time I recorded it, it d rounded out the whole mix lol. I only have a 8 CH mixer right now, which means only 4 microphone inputs and 2 direct line ins. I have to buy adapters for the line ins if I want more mics on the kit.
