Default Dead Again - Rated R

Industrial Glitch and a zombie attack. You have to love Romero for not bothering to get a copyright for Night of the Living Dead, all the audio is public domain. Hope you guys like it.

I am using EZdrummer and would love an upgrade so vote me up guys

pretty cool.. the distortion was getting to me a bit, maybe the mix is over compressed I don't know, it's a little hard on the ears but it could be me.

Dead Again is the name of the latest Type O Negative cd..

To much distortion and to compressed. Yeah, that kinda goes along with the style. It probably wouldn't hurt for me to back off the compression a bit. I stick by my distortion though I understand you not digging the grit though, it's not for everybody.

You are right, Type-O did an album called Dead Again but the Title Dead Again refers to the zombies in the middle of the track not the band if you are insinuating that I am covering or ripping them off in some way. I would think it was pretty clear from the track that if I was ripping anybody off it would be Squarepusher or Ghengis Tron.

I wasn't insinuating anything and I wasn't thinking you ripped of anybody.

That's cool, but if I was gonna rip somebody off for a Halloween song Type-O would be just about perfect.

Thanks for the vote. I really appreciate it.

For the creepy synths and bassline I used some really great sounding free plugins from TWEAKBENCH(seriously awesome plugins), namely tapeworm and triforce. To trigger the beats I used a free Computer Music Mag plugin called Reflex, it pretty much works like recycle, a sampler and a filter all in one, I really dig that plug in. I then rendered the drum loops to an audio track and cut and spliced to get some good glitch.
The Zombie attack in the middle of the track was a bit of foley and me grunting and hissing. I found some nice gun sounds and put it all together. I put various how-to bits up on my blog SLAMGAUGE if you wanna check it out. I have some other tracks of mine up there too.

I actually made this track a while back when I was trying to get some guys making a zombie movie to hire me for the audio stuff. It was part of my resume. Their whole project fell apart so nothing ever came of it.

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask

I tried out ritual, tapeworm and triforce. haha that's funny actually. I was think about the triforce on zelda. Sure enough, it was a nintendo synth kind of thing. Yea I can hear some similarities with your track and tapeworm for sure.

With the glitches, are you saying you took an audio file and chopped it up and pasted to make it sound glitchy? That sounds like it would be pretty tough. I assumed you would just program your midi track to sound that way.

SlamGuage is really informative btw.

P.S. It looks like you use cubase on SlamGuage some. Isn't there a hotkey or something you can do to transport multiple events on a single midi track into their own track. For example, a midi track dedicated to drums would in turn designate each cymbal, the kick, snare, tom toms, etc...into its own track.

I use various ways of making glitch. Sometimes I will take a vocal phrase and chop it up with recycle and import the chopped bits into Halion or some other sampler. I apply the samples across the keys so that as you move up the keyboard you are moving forward in time. That way if you play a chromatic scale going up at whatever time interval you cut the audio up at, it plays back normally. You can do neat pitch drops with the automation and other niffty tracker like effects that way. I also like to use Glitch on drum loops. That plug in is also fun to use on the master output if set a controller up to only have the plugin on when you are pressing down some button.

The only problem with Glitch is that it is very predictable and never really surprises you. One plug in that will surprise you is SupaTrigga. I like to set that plug in up on a loop and export about 2 or 3 min out to another track. Sometimes it sounds good, sometimes it does not sound right at all. Then I will take the new audio and cut it back into the original drum loop and add various other effects.

As for what you asked about spreading a midi drum track out into many different tracks, I have never heard of a shortcut to doing that. If you want to do that I would just make all the midi tracks you want and then cut and paste the parts into the separate tracks that are all on the same midi channel. I don't think I really know what you are going for though, I don't see much of a point in having them all spread out like that.
