Default Setting up monitors/Home friendly solution

So I ordered my first set about a week or so ago. A pair of refurb KRK RP5 G2's and I'm waiting for them to arrive in a few days. I can't wait!

I am trying to figure out how I am going to set them up. My desk is glass so I don't want to have them reflect off the glass biasing what I hear. I was thinking about buying stands until I saw how expensive they were, so I switched to making them instead.

I found a neat schematic for making them out of cinderblocks which seemed really cool and cheap too I liked the cinderblocks idea because in order to counter the fluctuations of the speaker/cab you need to mount it on the heaviest material possible. Except then I realized that I record and mix in my bedroom and it would look pretty ridiculous. And my parents would hate it.

As far as de-coupling I was thinking about ordering a handful of dense rubber hockey pucks. I might do that anyway even if I don't go with the cinderblock idea. Are there any easier solutions?

This is an expensive non-solution. Grab some of that gray foam that comes with gear or whatever (or any old open-cell foam) and stick it under your monitors. Not hockey pucks, you hockey puck.

The cinder block solution is always the easiest. I've always wondered if there was any benefit to a $300 speaker stand. Either way, cinder blocks are $1.42 a piece.

I always thought they looked cool. Your parents need a new interior decorator.

As for the hockey pucks, I'm looking for an isolation material myself. Be careful going too dense. I'm determined to find something badass that is used on the space shuttle or Nascar or something that will work. Just be advised that going too dense could render the decoupling useless.

Has anyone ever tried to suspend the monitors from the ceiling ?

Maybe have a heavy duty spring in the cord(s) to decouple from the ceiling.
Not sure if it would work, just thinking out loud...

You'd have to suspend it a long way to be at optimum level to your seating position.

It would have to be a very rigid suspension system so the monitors don't move at all. Monitors in motion, even fractions of an inch, would not be good.
