Default Question regarding building an ampbox

Hello

I hope there isn't a thread exactly like this on, I've searched through the forum and couldn't find an answer to my question. So here it comes:

I am a guitar player, and I enjoy turning up the volume on my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, this is fine as I live in outside the city, but soon I'll be moving to the city and that's a problem.

As you probably know there is no headphone jack in the hot rod, and anyway I don't think I would be satisfied with the result if i plug my guitar directly into my recording set-up.

Therefore I have been thinking of building a soundproof box for my amp and mic - then I could just use headphones through my recording device's monitor function, and when I would want to record the guitar I could turn up the volume and just record "In the box".

All this sounds pretty good, but my actual question is: How will the sound be in such a box - I am going to "plaster" the inside with acoustic foam, and make sure the actual construction is very solid and "dead". Will a box measuring 120 cm x 120 cm x 100 cm be too small, and will it make the sound "dull" or bad?

Therefore I would like to hear if any of you guys have any experience in recording and jamming in silence by making an ampbox? It would be a disaster if you had to quit the guitar because of moving to the city

Small boxes usually sound small and bad. Some amps have gain controls that let you get a loud sound at low levels. If that's an option, it's far better than building a little box. Stuffing the insides with foam won't solve the problem very well either.

Ya, Ive done somthing ver simular. But using expencive large rugs my rythem guitarest stole from his wife. She wasent very happy about it, but closeing the hell out of the cab does help in tone, and all sound in recording. I have 4 4'x8 rugs and about 10 quilts hung up around a Randall R412XLT100 Cabinet. Using a Sennheiser e609 and get great tones.
