Default A question about reflections behind Monitors

Hey there,

I have my desk situated in the only viable position of my room and I just wanted to know about reflections behind the speakers. My speakers are about 7 - 8 inches away from the wall and was wondering if if should put some duvets (quilts)/sound absorbing foam along this wall? Should I use a couple of pieces directly behind the speakers or all the way along this wall into the corners and then bass traps running up the edges?

Any help would be great

Thanks for your time

Your speakers face away from that wall, so I'd say it's one of the last places to worry about. I wrote an entire article about this:

Front Wall Absorption

After reading your article (Which is great by the way) I'm still a little confused as many studios have got insulation panels (Are they called defusers?) behind and angled above their monitors.

If i posted a few photographs of my studio would you mind have a little look at them and the shape of the room because I dont wanna start buying the wrong stuff and I don't wanna over kill deadening my room etc.

Thanks for your time Ethan

I'll be glad to look at your photos and comment.

Bass traps are often placed in wall-ceiling corners, so maybe that's what you've seen? Absorption flat on the front wall isn't necessarily bad. It's just not the first place to worry about.

What about the omnidirectional nature of low frequencies? Just curious.

Nevermind. I read the article. Good article!
