Default Monitor placement

I've just started reading the material and I'm already befuddled by the emphasis on monitor positioning within the room, which is supposed to supercede all other recording variables. What's crazy is the idea of moving the monitors around (how easy will this be?) until a "sweet spot" is found. And the sweet spot is where the mix sounds awful -- boomy and boxy? I guess this is where the repair work begins. But how will the repaired mix sound when removed from the dead zone, brittle and agitating? It's all relative isn't it? Aren't we shooting at a moving target? Maybe I'm misunderstanding the suggestion, but I'm not yet motivated to move my monitors from spot to spot until I find the place where they sound their worst.

Default Re: Monitor placement

While I see the point of that, I wouldn't be too worried about it. Most folks put them where they can put them and deal with any anomalies their placement has created.

Just follow this recipe and you'll be fine:

How to set up a room

Then add absorbers at the side-wall and ceiling reflection points as shown in the article, plus as many bass traps as you can manage.
