Pretty quiet.
Don't completely write off headphones. They should be used to supplment your primary monitoring system (monitors). Every now and then you should put on the headphones and check the overall balance, check for noises, crackles, and pops, and check for sonic harshness (i.e., "man those cymbals hurt my ears in these dang cans").

Headphones are a useful tool just like checking your mix on an iPod (especially with ear buds...i.e., "man where did my bass go?").

Here's where my studio will be in my basement. There's an unused bedroom behind the piano wall that will serve as an isolated tracking room. I've been toying with the idea of turning a large closet into a vocal booth. Also a bathroom to experiment with some sweet shower vocals. Didn't have any pictures of the recording gear, because I'm just now starting to put it all together. I'm completely lost on how to treat this room too.

Nice! Two thumbs up! Be careful converting small closets into vocal booths. It could have a detrimental effect.....too dead. With good acoustic treatment it can still be tough. I recommend a good helmholtz resonator to tame the lo-to-mid freqs (first reflection points) without deadening it too much. A dead vocal room sounds....well, dead (okay, I'm not a lyrical poet).

Whenever possible (i.e. isolation isn't an issue), I try to have the vocalist record out in the open to capture the natural ambience of the room (of course, the open room needs to needs to have a nice sounding space as well).

Note that in alot of the major studios, the lead singer (tracking by themselves; iso not needed) is out in the middle of the main studio room (i.e., Studio A).

No, that's my Carl Meisel Upright bass. If it hasn't been figured out yet, I'm a bass player.

Thats even better. I figured, with all the Fender bass guitars. My next purchase is a Fender precision or jazz. What your opinion ? Im using a cheap Peavey now. Im a guitarist, so most of my extra money goes towards 6 string goodies. I did a little recording 2 years ago (when I first started recording) called "Hillbilly Groove" . It had an upright bass in it (loop). I like the sound of them, alot.
