That really sucks that your "C" key doesn't work.

If it's gotta be dead, rap in a closet, or make a tent out of blankets like when you were a kid. If it's gotta be live, just do it in a big room and add a little reverb later. Bathrooms are very difficult to deal with logistically and the sound will probably not sit well in your mix without major tweaking.

I've never been happy with closet acoustics, especially if the vocalist is loud. Likewise bathrooms. I prefer subtle room acoustics on a track and bathrooms are rarely subtle. A medium sized room that isn't too reflective is my usual choice for vocals. Some portable baffles/gobos can help. The great thing about a good sounding room is that the vocalist can really open up and belt if need be. You have more freedom to experiment with mic distance if you don't have to be "fighting" your room acoustics.

I used my bathroom for VX booth. Didn't work too bad. But I tried something new last week that really worked well. I won't try to explaine how I did it but I hung two blankets from the ceiling in at right angles to each other and place a condenser in the corner that the blankets made. Got nice **** and clear recordings with no room effect. You can add effect really easy, but you can,t get rid of it.

While we're talking about things we're not explaining...

I hang acoustic baffles from the ceiling with powerful rare-earth magnets. It's extremely cool because set up time is practically nil. I hold the baffle up to the appropriate place and... "thook" the baffle grabs onto the ceiling anchors and hangs there. When it's time to put them away I give the baffle a firm tug and off it comes. I have other ceiling anchors placed along the tops of the studio walls so the baffles hang up against the walls and act as room treatment while in their storage position.

Great Idea. I have an crappy drop ceiling in my studio area and I thought about using some kind of clips to hang baffles from the cross bracing. Magnets would work I think, unless the braces are aluminum. I'll have to check.

I've been refining the idea by using lengths if lightweight chain to adjust the hanging position of the baffles.

If I take the chains downs you don't even really notice the hooks in the ceiling unless you're looking for them.
