Hi guys,
After reading the first two sections of KHR, I immediately smashed myself in the face for my piss-poor control room treatment, and immediately resolved to have bass traps in place this weekend!
In the course of my investigations, I found a CHEAP supplier of OC 703 in Milwaukee, WI for anyone who is close by. It is Acoustech Supply -
Welcome to Acoustech Supply Inc. | Supplier Of Acoustical Ceilings, Walls and Architectural Interior Finishes!
They had 1" unfaced 703 in stock, so I took a carton of 24 which should be perfect for 8 traps which will fit in my control room. The cost - $.43/square foot! The whole carton was like $82! I'm going to use 4" of thickness on my panels as of right now, but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on placement; corners vs walls/ceiling.
Here's the deal - I know my space is not ideal by any stretch. It is very small, well under the 2500 cubic foot rule at about 11' w x 8' l x 6.75' tall (basement, duh!) There are also some kick outs and door placements that make corner traps of any size quite difficult. I drew the attached floorplan to illustrate. (Sorry, it's crap, I'm at work and had to use Word!)
My main question, I guess, is whether it will be at all useful to put a couple 1-foot-by-whatever traps in the corners I can, probably 2 of them, or whether I should just put them on the backs of the two wood doors, behind the mix desk (IE behind the monitors), under the window, etc.? Or should I do the two corners and then the walls/doors as I can?
Other thoughts altogether? Oh - for the wall ones, I'd get them off the walls a few inches as well...
Thanks in advance!
Will
