Nigel, I just DIY 12 Bass traps. My advice would be this. If you have plenty of time and little money, build your own. If you have more money and less time, buy them. Even with building my own the 12 I built cost a little less than $450. I hung mine which is much easier than building stands. If you have the tools and the know how it is a fun project. Ethan was very kind and gave me some helpful hints even after he knew I was building my own. If I ever need to buy some in the future I will buy them from him. If you decide you are going to build your own I can send you a list of the materials I ended up using. and a link to the plans. ~skid |

hi skid, I don't really have the time to build them because my recording business is going well and I also have an evening job but what I would like to know is how many bass traps I would need and where exactly I would need to place them. My problem is my studio is housed in my conservatory which has a large glass window on one side which is the living room window and the conservatory windows on the other side. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Nigel |

Howdy Nigel, That's super easy if you're going to buy them pre-made. Take some pics or draw your room out on paper (Include dimensions either way). Then if you go with Ethan or another company they will do all the work for you and tell you exactly what you need and where to place them. Post pics when you're done ![]() Cheers ~Skidder |

Ok, a question about bass traps haha I thought bass traps were triangular and go into the corner of rooms? The picture of the bass trap above looked like a defuser?? (If thats the right word for it) Defusers are made out of stuff like rigid fibreglass , like rockwool? Sorry, correct me if I'm totally wrong hahah I'm confused... How many bass traops should be put in a room... Should there be bass traps on the back wall, and front wall, and side walls? Heeelllp haha Thanks Jono_not_Bono |

There are several types of bass traps. The best ones are made of rigid fiberglass, and are large. No small room will ever be perfectly flat, so the more bass traps you have, the closer to flat you'll get. It's not possible to have too many bass traps in a typical domestic size room. Diffusors are made from reflective material, and operate mainly at mid and high frequencies. Not to turn this into spam, but there's a ton of advice and non-sales explanations on my company's web site: RealTraps Articles RealTraps Videos --Ethan |
