Default Re: Bogner Alchemist

I just bought one of these last night. The amp makes a pretty good clean tone but it's overdrive really sold me. My guitar produces a very dark sound (lots of low end and mids) and I was able to sufficiently brighten it up while keeping its basic character.

Two days ago I stopped by Guitar Center to look for a new combo and played several different amps. I eventually got 'stuck' on the Bogner (meaning I just kept playing it and didn't want to move on). I decided to sleep on it and yesterday I dropped by again.

I pulled several different amps into a room and eventually worked my way down to the Bogner or a Marshall blues combo. The Marshall had superior cleans but didn't have an overdrive channel. I grabbed a Metal Zone pedal to compensate and proceeded to almost vomit in my mouth as it sounded friggin' horrible through the Marshall (and every other amp there). The door guy suggested I try a Blackstar distortion pedal (with a tube built in) which almost swayed me to the Marshall but the overdrive still didn't match the Bogner.

The Bogner has all the normal amp stuff plus more. You can choose between 20 or 40 watts and there are various other switches that provide a lot of tonal flexibility. The cleans didn't quite match the Marshall I tried but they are pretty damn close.

Oh yeah, if you're looking for an amp to get you a modern metal sound I would search elsewhere. There are amps out there that will provide a better 'chunk' for your dollar. This amp is all about thick overdrive and tone. I highly recommend checking it out.
