Talking Yamaha AW16G

Iv recently purchased this great bit of kit, but I am troubled by the fact it has only one dedicated hi-z input (high impedance input for electric guitars). Does this mean I can only record one guitar/bass at a time???
I need to be able to record at least 4 electric guitars/bass similtaniously, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hey,

I have the AW1600, which is pretty much the same as the 16G. I assume you are recording as a direct in. If you run your guitars through some sort of pedalboard etc you do not need to use the HI z, you can use it strictly for your bass, but if your bass has active pickups then the HI z isn;t neccessary either.

I have used the AW16G and the 1600 for the last 6 years doing mostly direct recordings, I have never used the HI z input.

If you have any more questions about the 16G don't hesitate to ask.

I've used the G and the 1600 quite a bit. I've always put a mic in front of a guitar amp and used one of the regular inputs; for bass, I've always run it through a SansAmp unit, then straight into one of the normal inputs.
I realise the hi-z input was put there for a reason, but I've just done it differently.

Well, you can plug a guitar into a line in, but it will sound dull. With that said, you certainly don't have to use the built in emulators in your Yamaha.

If you were to record the outputs of a hardware emulator or mic a real amp you wouldn't have any need for the Hi-Z inputs.

Also, bass doesn't usually benefit much (if at all) from the Hi-Z input.
