I almost never use DIs for guitars, but for bass and keys, if I want the sound to have a bit of an amp vibe I will use the A Designs REDDI (what I use most of the time), if I want really clean and punchy I use a Little Labs PCP. Since both of those I mentioned are really expensive, if I had to pick up something at a lower price it would be a Radial JDI

Radial JDI or J48 for most everything but bass. For bass I like the Groove Tubes Brick.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah I've heard equally great things about the Radial JDI and that's been the one I've had my eye on for a while. Recently though I have been in close contact with a fellow member of the forum, and what I got from him is basically for guitar DI's, there is nothing better than the Countryman Type 85. Other than heresay, I have no idea how intricacies of sound differs from one to the next, I just want to have the best capture possible. What are your thoughts on the situation?

Are you using this DI so that you can record guitar and run it into an amp sim? And what might you expect a DI box to do to your sound?

It depend on what your intentions are. Metaltastic over on the Andy Sneap forum did a DI shootout awhile back between the Countryman Type 85, the Little Labs Redeye, and the Radial J48. Here's the thread: Heavy-hitter DI shootout! Also, my best Recto tone yet! - Ultimate Metal Forum The Countryman Type 85 came out the best to my ears.

Well for right now I don't have a great amp so I might use the signal for sim processing and the occasional reamp to my current amp. When I do get a great amp though I will most definitely use the DI for reamping to it. As for the second question I'm not too sure. I expect certain DI's will accent certain parts of the frequency range over others and make the DI sound more or less powerful for what I am intending on using it for.

That's an awesome shootout! I think to my ears and my wallet the type 85 sounds best to me I just wish he included the Radial JDI instead of the J48, but they're probably not much different as far as performance goes.

I use the Avalon U5.I use it to record a DI of Bass or guitar then run the thru signal to a PODxt for a scratch guide track(guitar)
That way I have a great sounding Scratch/DI and a Clean DI for reamping with a Radial Pro RMP re-amper.
The Avalon U5 has a great tone and some nice features.

I go straight into my Manley TNT Tube for most DI applications. On certain gigs the Sansamp DI box is excellent, sometimes it's NOT what I want.

Got a couple of Radial JDIs. Can't recommend them highly enough!
The Bass SansAmp for bass DI stuff. Great for bass DI; except can be noisy with too my Drive setting.

I have 4 Behringer DI boxes....now doing paperweight duty (don't even try putting a bass guitar through it. UGH).
