Self built

Pentium P4 3gig processor
Intell MB
Delta 66 soundcard
1 gig ram
Maxter 320 gig 7200rpm HD primary drive
Western Digital 100 gig 7200 rpm HD secondary drive
Windows XP SP2

I doubt I'll be upgrading this unit anytime soon unless it completely dies. So far ithas handled running Sonar with up to 20 tracks in operation without breaking a sweat.

[QUOTE=snoopy;4884]OK my turn......Metal Case ;D with lots of Dynamat

I was wondering about this, seems like a very good and practical idea.

Does anyone else have any comments on shielding computer cases?

Also, Dynamat is somewhat expensive, are there some cheap alternatives that would get a similar result?

I built the machine myself using parts from NewEgg. The machine is in a constant state of flux as better parts become available at lower and lower prices. I've swapped out the mobo and cpu just in the last four months.

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz
Motherboard Chipset: Intel P35 1066/1333 MHz FSB
RAM: 2GB DDR2-800
Hard Drive: 250GB 7200RPM SATA II
Second Hard Drive (Storage): 500GB 7200RPM SATA II
Optical Drive: Dual Layer 20x DVD+-RW/CD-RW
8 USB 2.0 ports
One eSATA port
2 Firewire 1394 ports
Video Card: Radeon X1050 256MB 128-bit DDR PCI Express x16
PCI Slots: 3 slots
PCIe Slots: 3 slots
LAN: (10/100/1000 Mbits/sec) Gigabit Ethernet Controller
PSU: 380 watt silent power supply
Recording Interface - Line 6 UX2
Running Nuendo 3 and numerous plug ins.

The interface will be upgraded soon to an 8 channel mic pre/converter running ADAT Lightpipe into an RME Hammerfall PCI card.

Oh, and I forgot to mention my "monitors"...Denon AH-D2000 Headphones. Yeah, I know. using headphones as monitors is "cheating". But it's worked for me ok thus far. When I buy the interface upgrade, I'm planning to buy some nice powered monitors, possibly Adam A-7's or A-5's. Or, if I go budget priced, then I'll get Samson Rubicon 6A's.

One alternative is to build a box to house your PC tower. Or beef up your desk. Mine is inside a desk with a door on the front. So what I did was line the inside of the shelf it sits in with sound deadening material (acoustic cotton 5.5 inches thick. Once I did that, when I close the door, the machine is inaudible.

Motherboard - PC Chips K7 Model M825G 333 FSB
Processor - AMD 1.83 Mhz
Memory - 2 gig DDR
Drives - HP DVD Writer 1040d
- Sony CD-RW CRX230EE
- Samsung 80gb HD
Speakers - Altec Lansing 5.1 80 watts (4) spkrs with sub-woofer
OS - Windows XP Pro and Cygwin
Sound Card / Interface - motherboard C-Media AC97

I have'nt really done any "real" recording yet on this ( my current desktop)
I have some light version of Acid on my old desktop that that I have'nt been able to boot up in a while and really don't have the time to fool with it.

This current setup has been rock solid for me.*
I love it. I am shopping around for an interface and am itching to get back into it (recording) . Am thinking about the Tascam US-1641 . I am not sure if I have USB 2.0 though.

Also have a Dell 1521 laptop with Vista .

*Except for the time I was adding RAM and forgot to turn off the power. Fried the MB. My bad. I was able to purchase identicle MB online for less
than 100 bucks . Installed and walla, good as new. Did'nt lose a thing.

Do you find that this affects your processor temp? With that much batting it seems like ventilation would be a critical concern.

I'm betting that does work well for keeping noise in, how about heat?

Do you use any kind of extra processor cooling tech?
