Hey Strangedogs!
I found the 1884 locally on craigslist for more than half price. I could not have afforded one either. . .my wife would never have approved. If your ready for DAW control they are nice units, you just need to be ready for problem solving. I have S/PDIF hooked up to the DBX 364, I run two mic channels through it. So I have room for all the synths. 10 channels. I hooked up the five groove machines to my Mackie 1404 and run the MXR outputs into the channels 7 and 8. Since my creations are usually what I can do with guitars and "on the fly" synths, I havn't touched the midi mapping capabilities of the 1884. Which is probably a waste of good technology.

You know what? These are actually the best Creative cards for audio production IMO.

I run an M-Audio Audiophile 24/96, in tandem with a Creative Audigy 2. Fast ASIO drivers handle everything in Reason and VSTs... The M-Audio is the master for my host sequencer (Cakewalk). Really nice, very low latency. 2ms or less. Took a while to setup and configure, but it's a strong setup for my needs...

Question Re: What recording audio interface do you use and why?

I just ordered an M-Audio Fast Track USB Audio Interface and should have it next week. Will I be able to record at least 4 tracks simultaneously using Audition 1.5?

Just got the Tascam US 1641.

Took it and my laptop to our practice space, plugged in a bunch of mics, lined out the vox from the practice rig, plugged in the usb, fired up Reaper, and made some good recordings. Not GREAT, but good.

I like simplicity, and this thing works. I know I could get great recordings with better tecniques, but I was impressed that I could record 10 tracks @ once with no troubles.

The preamps sound great too. All via usb.
I don't know about longevity, but it seems fairly rugged. Pretty good features for $319.

Phonic Helixboard 12 Firewire MkII. 10 inputs for £200. I plug my old Behringer 1204fx into the non-preamp channels and it gives me 8 mic pre's for £300. All multi-tracked.

Bargain.

using an Apogee Duet
running it into either Garageband or Logic

Reason I got it? It has been recommended in its price category for best 2 channel preamp and converter.

It sounds amazing and the converters are top notch.
