Hi guys. I need a good vocal mic for my home studio (rehearsel space) We play metal so I need a mic that will handle growl as well as clean vocals. I´m thinking in the area of 400$ Something like the RODE NT2-A maybe... What can you recommend? |

Are you going to be recording only or will you want it as a live mic as well? If you're gonna use it live too I would probably stay away from a condenser. In fact in your price range you could probably afford a SM7b which a lot of people seem to love as a vocal mic. I've never been able to justify the expense yet, but I hope to get one some day

Thanks for answering :-) It is only to be used for recording. Yeah I also heard a lot (good) about the SM7B so that is deffinetly a candidate. I actually just bought the RODE NT1-A so I will check that out first. It´s a bit cheap but it doesn´t matter too much as it will only be used in the home studio :-) But later on I will need a better one if the NT1 doesn´t do it for me ;-) What else in the 500-600$ range? |

| EV re-20 is awesome for vox as well. I think a lot of people compare the sm7b to the re-20 and figure the sm7b at half the price is better value for the dollar. At this point I disagree hence I own an re-20. There a thousands of good reviews about the sm7b because it reached the masses. The re-20 hasn't because it is pricer. Don't let that fool you.

re-20 and sm7b always comes up in these discussions...and for a reason. Pick one! Nuff said!

I vote for the SM7b. It's a general studio workhorse that works great on many, many things. It's one of my favorite mics. Brandon
