Tube Preamp or Tube mic

Hi everybody, I'm thinking of upgrading my mic. But could use some advice.

I'd love to tell you the MXL V69 is a great sounding mic. It is. It's also the most unreliable piece of shit I've ever encountered in my life. I have two. They've made it back to MXL 5 times and both of them are dead at the moment. I'm tired of shipping them.

For $300 snag a used AT4050 or something and call it a day.

Don't get too wound up about products that "tube" in the name. How much do you want to bet that I could toss up a clip of 3 different mics and you wouldn't be able to guess which one is the tube mic?

Thanks Brandon, for the advice on the mics. I also listened to your mic shootout, very helpfull and the AT4050 sounds great.

About the tube thing, I gues you said it all in a nother reply, when you say "there are no tubes in api, neve... consoles that were used on your favorite recordings.

I'll use plugins for a tube sound and a nice high rolloff and I gues that the AT4050 will give me a nicer sound.
