Default Strings Software

Hello,

I'm new to the website. This is my first post. I was wondering if I could get some help as to which software I should pick up.

I want to do acoustic/vocal backed by some strings. Is there a particular software that has some good orchestral sounding strings I can control with my Yamaha keyboard?

I don't have much recording experience. I've only recording about 6 songs using cool edit pro with my guitar and keyboard, and my little integrated sound card.

I'd prefer a program where I can do the strings and record my voice and guitar all in one program.

Also, any recommendations as to what kind of mic set up I should go for? My budget has been very limited so I bought a little $10 logitech mic that was obviously only meant for talking and it sounded awful. I'm not really sure as to what kind of gear I for a microphone.

Also, one last thing, how would I go about hooking up my Yamaha keyboard (it has a midi output) into my computer?

Thanks endlessly in advance.

You'll want software with a MIDI sequencer. All the big boy players have a sequencer. (Cubase, Logic, Pro Tools, Sonar, Digital Performer, etc).

Then you'll probaby want to purchase some 3rd party string samples. There are many out there and a variety of prices.

If you plan on playing the MIDI parts real time, you'll need a low latency audio interface. (I recommend getting an audio interface bundled with software)Home Recording Soundcard Wizard / Audio Interface Search Tool

$10 is certainly pushing it. Behringer makes some mics in the $30-40 range, but I'd probably spring for something like this: Musician's Friend - Search Results

Your best bet would be to get an audio interface with a MIDI port included.
