Default Sound descriptions/w a r m

I can see why Brandon doesnt like the word w a rm. To me it implies 250k.
When i hear most of these words i usually dont have a clue as to what the person is trying to describe unless theyve attached a freqency to it.

Bite, bark, chirp, meat, sizzle, crunch, w a r m, and im sure the list is endless.

Even if i do happen to get the picture right, ill always have to wonder because there still room for variation. Pretty sure(i think) i know what
w a r m means, it just doesnt come close to describing upper bass for me.

It seems to me that some of the problem stems from the fact that were using adjectives to describe these words and that leaves a lot of room for that persons own interpretation.

Why cant we use words with definate meaning or nouns to describe some of these sounds ,so we can quit guessing what were talking about sometimes and just know.

Been buggin me, thanks for the read. Sorry i put this in the wrong forum. My intent was to post in the audio engineer, but that may not even be right. sorry

New Car Smell:
I actually just bought a brand new 2010 Nissan Rogue this month with 12 miles on it. Burning oil, bitter plastic bag, leather, mixed with other things is actually a new car smell. After the first 3 days of driving did that new car smell actually come out and was recognizable.

Toasters get w@rm and dogs bite.
Bacon sizzles and stepping on roaches makes a crunch.
But till clients know what 4db, .3Q parametric boost @ 550hz means, we gotta use these sell words.

Uh, oh! willjrockstar questioned the W-A-R-M banning.

We'll never see hide or hair from him again!

Brandon's gonna stick Chuck Norris on him and throw him into the sun!

(just kidding folks)

Now for my **** milk and cookies....

I just wanna use words that adequately describe the ??????????

For example Danny told me in another thread that 80-100hz is where the meat of the guitar is. To me the meat is the main portion or the most of it.

80-100 seems like the fat to me. Whats around the edges. The part of it that taste good but you only want a little.

The problem is there are no standards. I only really get in an uproar about the words that have more than one meaning (especially when those meanings are contradictory).

This entire audio thing is subjective. We all have different playback systems that present the sound in a different way and we all have different personalities and tendencies that detect that sound in a different way. On top of that, we often get confused about what is really going on. (ie: many people THINK they want more top end in their electric guitars than they really do)

I don't agree with Danny. In my view of the world, the "meat" of the guitar is much higher than that. Guitars get tricky because their distorted nature creates an abundance of harmonics that further complicate what is indeed the center "meat".

I think people use sound descriptions to when either they don't know what they are talking about or when the person they are describing it to doesn't know.

I think sometimes it can be useful. I have a pretty good idea of what people mean when they say 'airy' or 'thin'. Muffled is an obvious one. Punchy? I don't know what in the world that one is supposed to mean. I don't know what 'depth' means either.

Sizzle is actually kind of a sound in and of itself, so can be a useful word.

W a r m on the other hand has absolutely no meaning. To you it means means 250k, to me it means slightly distorted with the top end rolled off. To someone else it means accurate.

I like the new car smell description. And like 7th string mentioned, it's just a combination of simple smells.

Maybe there should be a 'useless terms' glossary section.
