Default Rnc compressor not working with Art dmpa pre?

Hello I am hoping someone could please help me. I have just bought a new Art dmpa mic pre and a Fmr Really Nice Compressor. I went to hook it up last night and the compressor doesn't seem to be working.

The Art mic pre has a insert on the back for each channel. I have a insert ' Y ' lead going from the in and out of the Rnc into the insert of the Art pre, and I get nothing. When I press the bypass button on the rnc I can hear the mic signal but when it is off I get no sound at all, this happens on both channels.

I have tried the Rnc through a insert on my Presonus digimax and it seems to work fine.
Could this be a problem with the Art pre, but it is only new????

Thanks

The mic pre has to go first to boost the signal up to line level. Then run that into your RNC compressor. I've got a feeling that you've got the in / out reversed on your inserts gadget.

Is there any benefit to using the insert on the preamp? Couldn't you just run out of the preamp and into the compressor the old fashioned way?

Thanks for the reply, I thought that was what the insert is for a compressor etc. I have to use the art pre as digital as I run it spidif out into my soundcard. So wouldn't that be the best way to use the compressor as a insert. I am not too familar with this.
It works fine when used as a insert on the digimax.

What would be the best way to set it up using the insert on the Art? I wanted to use that pre with the rnc for vocals.

It is fixed , it luckily turned out to be a dodgy lead, the lead must have died for some reason after I tried it in the digimax, but I got a new lead and it works for now, so all is good.

Also with that compressor you don't need a 'Y' insert cable you can plug a regular TRS patch cable from insert to input and it will route it for you, nice about FMR.

I didn't know that , I was just told that I had to use a insert 'Y' lead, would a regular trs work just the same. Do I just plug into mono in on rnc?

Thanks

It's printed on the input of each channel.

From the manual:

TRS Inserts —
The RNC can be hooked into Tip-Ring-Sleeve (TRS) insert points
found on many consoles where: TIP = Console insert out, RING = Console insert
in, SLEEVE = Ground reference. This means that each channel of the RNC can be
hooked to a each channel of a TRS console insert with a single TRS cable. For
example, on my Mackie 1604VLZ, the main out has left and right insert points so
that my RNC can be put in the main out insert (Left and right)
with only two TRS
cables!

Uh - oh!

Sorry couldn't resist. I have an RNC and found the manual was very helpful. Thumbs up to Mark and Beth (designers and owners of FMR). Nice folks, too.
