Default Question about phantom power

Sorry if this is posted in the wrong section

I have a condenser mic that requires phantom power
i aslo have a behringer SL2442FXPRO

Buy Behringer Eurodesk SL2442FX-PRO Mixer online at Musician's Friend

I am wondering whether the phantom power that is inbuilt on the mixer sends the power to all the mics that are connected to the mixer, even the mics that dont need it?

I've heard that phantom ower can damage mics that dont need the power.
any thoughts would be much appreciated

thanks in advance

I'm not sure how it works on your mixer, but most desks I've worked with have a seperate phantom power supply for each 8 channels, meaning that if turned on all 8 channels are supplied with phantom power. If you're worried, you can just use your condensers on 8 of the channels and keep the rest for dynamics, ribbons, etc.

But if everything is working as it should the phantom power will not damage any dynamic mics. It used to be an issue with ribbon mics, so just make sure if you're using any. Some of the newer models (Cascade, etc.) are even phantom power safe.

In fact there are a few phantom powered dynamics, just to make it more confusing.

Not really. This only applies to certain ribbon mics. In fact, I've ran phantom power through my Royer R121 and haven't blown it up yet. Dynamics don't care if you send them phantom power. Condensers need it. Just be careful around vintage ribbons and you'll be just fine.
