In my opinion it has something to do with pro-tools.
Presonus products come with Cubase and are not compatable with pro-tools, and digidesign only works with pro-tools.

Both interfaces are equal quality and have the ability to get 26 inputs. The only difference is the software. I think both are equal and do the same thing, (remember, the LE and free version have different limitations), but if you plan to upgrade to Pro-tools 8/HD, or Cubase 5, they both have the ability to get unlimited tracks and record at 96hz sample rate.

So it all boils down to software preference and budget, and of course the overal goal of your studio

are you saying that the 003 rack is more expensive just because of the software it integrates with?

Not my version of LE4. I think that's one of the limitations. But you know what? My old version of the original LE (before 4 and studio4 came around) I'm able to track 26 channels of audio, LE4 only allows 8. They change the limitations all the time.

That's the way I see the only difference is. A firestudio can take 26 inputs, digi can only take 18. Firestudio has 8 built preamps, The digi has 4, and they are equal quality preamps.

Oh, and I only used Presonus as an example cuz I own one. Focusrite, M-audio, Mackie, and other brands all make 26 channel input interfaces at at least half the price.

Pro Tools is proprietary and can get away with it.
