Default Peavey 5150 combo 2x12 for $400???

I've recently found myself in a dillemma... I have a friend offereing me a Peavey 5150 combo amp for $400 and was wondering if this is a good deal. The amp is in pretty good condition with the original tubes still in there. Its got some wear and tear but its a pretty old amp. I haven't been able to check it out but he said it sounds great.

My dilemma is that I already have a mesa cab and was looking to buy a new head. Should I wait and get a 5150 head or is there no difference? I'm kinda confused...

I've heard this is a great amp for recording metal so I kinda want to buy it and it seems pretty cheap. Any suggestions or ideas? Any help is appreciated

Yeah, I just called a local music shop and they had one for $800... Yikes! I gotta scoop this thing up before someone else does!

Thanks for your response!

Yeah, after seeing all the killer reviews, I scooped it up immediately. Not only that, but I only gave him $380 ($20 for gas). haha. I can't wait to record with it! Thanks guys

Unless this thing is broken, you did very well.
