Default New Studio Equipments.

Oh, hai! I kind of did read this whole forum and some others places and decided to finally expose my thoughts on what would be my real-needs equipments and I would love to know from people that actually already works with it if I've made a good decision.

I am starting after a few courses and I am planing onto create a home-studio for me to mainly record my stuff, wich goes no longer than accoustic strings, violin and guitar, few small percussion (no whole drum at all, just a bass drum), maybe a guitar here and there and a few vocals, and mix it all.

So, here it goes:

Saffire 6 - FocusRite - 2 in/4 out with mid.
M-Audio Keystation 88es USB - Mid Controler.
Oktava MCo12 - For violin and accoustic guitar.
Rode NT1-A - For voice.
Shure Beta 52A - Bass Drum.
Sony's MDR-V6 - Phone.
Focal CMS 65 - Speakers.

So, this is it.
Thank you in advance for the space.

Welcome to the forum. I would think that the rode mic could work as well as a beta 52 for a bass drum. I have both and have never tried the rode on a bass drum but have heard of others getting good results.

My preference on the bass drum is an AKG d112. It is pretty much the standard. The beta 52 has a bit more attack and give you more beater smack, wheras the d112 has more low end.

Like i said depending on yr plans and finances the rode could be all you need.
Good luck.

Thank you very much for the welcome! I did not post yet on other's thread because I am not that smart enough to give advices yet. :P

It is something to consider about this D112. So, would it be good to mic both sides of it using a D112 and a Beta 52, to get both low end and beat smack?

I definately dont think that both the d112 and the beta 52 are necessary. All depends what yr needs/wants are.

If yr just starting out you might think about going slow and adding pieces as you need them. Like i said you might find that the rode mic does everything you need without buying a beta 52 OR a D112.

Be careful with the Rode (a LDC) on the kick. It can only take so many SPLs before going kaput. The 52 and 112 were designed to handle the high SPLs and freq response from a kick. The Rode would make a good room or OH mic on the drums for sure.

According to the manufacturer:

RØDE NT1-A: Maximum SPL 137dB
AKG D 112: Maximum SPL outside measurement range
Shure Beta 52A: Maximum SPL 174 dB

I would be reluctant to use a large diaphragm condenser mic on a kick no matter what the manufacturer said.

Thank you very much for all the answers here, my friends. And what about the others equipments but microphones, are they enough for what I'm looking for?
