Need Advice re: Live Recording

I am tired of paying people (some good, some bad) to record our band during live performaces and decided to attempt to do it myself. What I would like to know is what equipment/interfaces/software/etc., I should get based on my equipment listed below:

The mixer is a non-powered Carvin 1644 concert series (16 Channel with USB, SPDF in/outs). We use almost all of those 16 channels. I have direct pre fader 1/4" outs for each channel that I believe are balanced outs. I also have 4buses I use the buses for: vocals, guitars, bass, drums.

I have a new Dell XPS computer with Windows Vista 64bit OS.

I would like to capture all 16 channels if possible so that I can use the faders and mix well.

Can someone tell me what is the best way (most economical if possible) to transfer those channels to some software program that will work best with Winows Vista?

hey there, i have a very similar idea to you, the way i plan to do it is to get 2 presonus firepods

i have chosen the firepod because you can link up to 3 of them together, so you can et up to 24 analogue inputs
