Default Mixers

Hi,
i'm looking to buy a mixer. It needs to have 16 XLR inputs, i would be wanting to use it for live work, and home recording. I have seen one, Peavey PV 20 usb (Peavey PV 20 USB (GAK)), and i was wondering whether it would be a good buy. Would each channel on the mixer be assignable to an individual channel in Logic express 8?
Can people please give me any suggestions on mixers that might do this.

Thanks

Yes, it has 16 XLR inputs with preamps.

However, each input is not assignable to each track in Logic. The USB only sends a mixed stereo channel to the DAW.

You'll need a mixer with "direct outs" or firewire that can send each channel to a separate DAW (Logic) track.

I attached the manual that explains this.

What kind of computer do you have (firewire capable)? Any other audio interfaces attached to it?

For live work I can not recommend the Soundcraft LX7ii enough. Great board, direct outs, 6 aux sends and really clean preamps. I spent a whole lot of years on a LX7 and never had a worry. They do come in 16 channel frames if needed but I would recommend 24. You never know who is going to sit in with the band. Had Jim Belushi show up one night to play harp. Plenty of room=good!

The Soundcraft (like the A&H and other such truly mid-level boards) is about 20 times the mixer of the cheapo Peavey. BTW, The Peavey-made Crest stuff is quite nice.

ye, i have a white 2007 macbook with firewire 400. And i have a Tascam Fireone, thats ok, but i can't get the control functions on it to work, so i'm planning on expanding a bit.

Can you send me some links of mixers with firewire that send each track.

Out of interest, how much does your studio charge per hour for recording sessions with a recording engineer?

Thanks

You are going to spend some money for a 16 channel with built in interface via firewire that is worth owning. The Allen and Heath ZED R16 is a nice board with all the properties that you want. Save your money and buy something nice and buy it once...

You will not regret waiting. The difference in longevity alone will be worth it.
