Midi Controllers... which one!?

I only use a piano/keyboard every once in a while but really want to start playing more often. I figure the best/cheapest/most compact way of doing that is with a midi controller.

There's plenty out there - which do you guys own/have tired and love?

Is it even possible to get them with a realistic feel (weighted keys)?
reccommended size (number of keys)?
should I consider using it to write automation? if so - pro-tools compaitabilty would be a bonus, really limiting my options.

any help is really appreciated.

Go to a good music store and play them. Good ones get into the price of a synth.

Like you can get a used mo6 for $500. I would rather have that than a $500 controller.

I'm still using the good ol' Roland XP-10, but I'm not a piano player.

The weighted keys think is totally subjective. Some amazing piano dudes I know hate weighted keys.

I'd recommend making a trip to Guitar Center and see if any of those fit the bill.

I'd be very leery about over paying unless the feel of the keyboard is an ultra big deal for you.
