Default Microphone which one to buy

Hey im new to all this recording so i dont really know my stuff. so i was thinking about buying one of two items.
Either the Electrovoice Cardinal or the Electovoice Raven. one is a condensor and on is a dynamic. has anyone tried one of these mics? i got a Shure sm57 but i didnt like it(is that a first?) so i returned it and looking am for a new one. the sad thing is if i get a condenser i gotta get a preamp or something right? but i dont want to spend 1000 dollars on one so is there any alternatives on getting phantom power?
Thanks a lot,
and is there like alternative microphones that are good for beginners?(but im already ready to get either electrovoice models)

If you have an interface you should have phantom power. If not you can get an interface for $200ish. I've not used or heard of either of these mics. My budget picks for a dynamic and condenser are Studio projects B1 and sm 57.

the B1 looks pretty awesome but sadly its not available in my local stores ... and i cant get one off the internet because im underage for a credit card haha. so um a the real problem for me is that i want to get a tubemp or mic200 tube preamp which are really cheap but like do they make the mic sound worse? because if not i am planning on getting that and a cardinal
And thanks for the reply

What did you plug the sm57 in to? It requires a preamp just as much as a condenser mic.
Without a proper preamp, and no you don't have to spend $1000, you will probably not like the sound of any mic.

yup. thats a first. something went wrong somewhere there. thats the mic that engineers, if given a choice of sm57 or food, would choose sm57 if forced to live on a desert island.

BUT to each his/her own. anyway, yes preamps make a difference. nevertheless, why do you not like the sm57? thats the burning question engineers would ask.

anyway, go to the interface wizard to make an informed choice. go here:

make a list of whats available in your local stores that is in your range and get back to us with the list, if you'd bother to do that, that is. then we can sort out the good, the bad, and the ugly... sorry been watching too many clint eastwood movies.

there's another way you might be able to get something over the internet and you can do it through the local store. it is that they order the stuffs for you. i am not sure if yours does this but mine gladly does so.

ok so i was looking around... a lot.. and basically have a budget of like a max of 300 dollars to buy a mic and a preamp/mixer thingy.
so i was thinking of preamp as:
Behringer Xenyx (probably the 10 input one)
ART Tubemp
Presonus Tubepre
Thats if you guys say its ok to plug that strait into the sound card... i donno do i need a firebox or something?
and for a mic i was thinking
If they have it the Studio project B1
Electrovoice Cardinal or raven<--- really want it but kinda for cosmetic reasons hahaha. i looked around on the internet and the reviews said they were good and such but i dont know my stuff very well... technically its been designed with Blue so i donno are cheaper blue microphones good?
Audio-Technica at2020(but not really)
and maybe a SE100a
or an Apex 215
Those are like the stuff i peeked at. the thing is theres only major music stores around me that i can get this gear, since all the local stores are more specialized at guitars or pianos.
Thanks a lot again
Cheers
