While reading some of the sales literature I noticed that Lexicon mentioned something about plugging this unit into a laptop. The article I read about the Omega stated that hardrives slower than 7200 may encounter problems. Can I record to an external 7200 rpm drive and if so would that solve my problem?

Would a laptops slower hard drive speed going to cause problems? Or are the demands on the hardware so low that it won't matter?? Also what about sound cards? Do these units have their own sound cards?

Any help anyone could provide me would be great.

Would a laptops slower hard drive speed going to cause problems? I use a Lexicon Alpha on my laptops and I havent ever had a problem due to 5400 rpm.

Or are the demands on the hardware so low that it won't matter?? I think so.

Also what about sound cards? Do these units have their own sound cards?... These units actually are a sound card in themselves and a little more (more options than your laptops soundcard. Hope this helps

I am a 1 month old rookie at recording at home. I purchase the Lexicon Alpha due to a very very low budget.
Seems to be sturdy to me.. no problems so far.
The sound is good to my rookie ear.

So far it has accomplished all I have needed. No problems other than the natural learning curve of how to use it.

    Reliability: 9
No direct calls to support with Lexicon.

I used there website several times and it had what I needed to solve my issues.

    Overall Rating: 8
This is a low cost audio interface, and has only 2 inputs. One microphone and one for guitar or whatever. Other than the limitations, it has been a great product.

I use it with a HP notebook PC..
    Intel(R) Core (TM)2 Duo CPU
    T5550 1.83 GHz
    Ram 3.00 GB
    No problems.

I would recommend to folks with a low low budget like mine.
Really not set up to for recording a whole band but is good for home recordings. Comes with Cubase LE4 software and a CD for hardware and software installation.

I've bought a Lexcon Alpha and could not be happy with it yet.
I've been having several problems and I need some help:
    1 - Performance --
When I try to record a song (2 minutes) the sound is fuzzy and noisy. I also lost the backgroud clik sync.

My laptop is a Dell Intel (R) Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4 GHz
    4 GB RAM.
    Independent Video NVidea 256 MB
    OS - MS Windows Vista.
    Is this configuration robust enough?

Cubase LE 4 - This version does not support Rewire. This is a nuisance because I cannot use my arrangements. I think this is a big mistake from steinberg’s team. It would be more respectful with the client to increase a little more the product price, but never sell a depreciated product. For their greed, steinberg has lost more and more market space. I think that Cubase LE 4 is a big decorated crap.
I found another problem when trying to change the Cubase LE 4 for Nuendo Portable. The first time I ran Nuendo everything was ok. But when I set the ASIO driver to test the Alpha, I managed to record a snippet of song. I synched Reason via Rewire, but when I closed the Reason and Nuendo was never able to reopen Nuendo. So, I read the Log and saw that the ddl could not be loaded.

    Exception code: C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION
    Fault address: 0F2B4652 01:00013652 C: \ Program Files \ Lexicon \ alpha \ driver \ alphaasio.dll
As you can see, I'm very happy to have bought the Alpha Lexcon

    The guitar sound is changed:
This is another very inconvenient problem. Sound set in Guitar Multi Effects Pedal is not the same that I hear through the Lexcon Alpha headphones. I think that unfortunately there is no solution for this problem. That's extremely bad for me because my performance is very dependent on the sound that I can notice.

I would appreciate some help to get more settings to record my songs and arrangements.
    10x, folks.
