I'm a newbie

Hello everyone,

I'm a newbie when it comes to audio recording and a trumpet player (classical) looking to learn how to record brass instruments with proper gear. Hopefully the nice people in this forum will be able to give me some tips on how to get started and what gear to get so I can start.

Suggestions from other trumpet players are portable digital recorders like the Zoom H2 (h4), Edirol R-09 or the Sony PCM D-50.

I want to be able to record in a large auditorium, church or recital hall, brass ensemble, myself playing trumpet, piano and trumpet, organ and trumpet etc.

If you have experience doing this please don't hesitate to make suggestions on what equipment to use, microphones, distance etc. The only recording experience I have is using an old cassette player to record myself. Thanks and I hope to learn a few things from you fine people.

Tell us exactly what you want to record. A stereo recorder will allow you to capture a single source, but the issue gets complicated if you want to have multiple tracks and things of that sort.
